CARLINGFORD BANTS ( sorry extremely late just forgot to post it..:/ )

Last week started off as a very exciting week on Monday morning we headed off to carlingford adventure center. I woke up at 5.30 in order to be on time so i wouldn't miss the bus because that wouldn't be good at all! I arrived at Esso at around ten to seven and had to wait around for a little while as people slowly arrived. I was so tired when i arrived and not in the best of moods as i am not a morning person in any way. We got on the bus around 7 and headed off to carlingford. we got there around 9 o clock. When we got there we were split in to our two groups A and B I was in group B with all my friends. We then received our rooms. We had a room with eight beds but we had nine people. We were forced to make Emer  a bed on the floor. Poor Emer !! We didn't have much time to settle in as we had to go do our water activities.!
Kayaking was the first activity of our stay. Before we could get anywhere near the water or boats we had to get into the very glamours clothing called wet suits we all looked fit for the red carpet. to top the look off we had a lovely bright yellow helmet and a life jacket. We then got into our kayaks Hannah,Lauren and I were in the same boat amazing team we were going at 90. We then  got out of our boats to a little beach and played some games. It was an amazing way to start our trip.
Lunch  was okay. After lunch we were straight into our lunch activity was Lazer Tag !!!!!
It was one of the top activities of my stay. It was so much fun I wish we got another opportunity to do it again !! We then came back for dinner and had time to hang around. Me being me I of course had to stuff horrible sour sweets in my mouth to see what t would be like. Due to the sugar content of these sweets it of course  made me very hyper but hey it just added to the fun for our next activity, which was hiking up a mountain for a long time to end up where we were for the lazer tag. We were blindfolded and told to hold onto the persons shoulders in front and a rope that went around a path and as a group we led each other trough the  forest blindfolded. It was hilarious as Lucy was not so good at warning on when a step or drop was coming up -_-  thanks for that Lucy.
Afterwards we had time to change in our Pj's and get chipper or Chinese if we wanted.  As i was Lauren's birthday we went to the games room and held a miniature disco it was probably the highlight of the trip.
On Tuesday we had canoeing as our first activity and got to jump off a water trampoline into the see it was soooooo cold!!! We had lunch and the went to our land activity. It was like an outdoors version of crystal maze we as a team had to figure out all different puzzles to get a gem. Lets just say it definitely made everyone hate each other  not the best bonding exercise. haha!!
Carlingford was amazing and i would go back there in a heart beat and all the instructors were lovely aswell.!!:)

Fashion Show!!

Well we had our fashion show this week after all the blood sweat and tears its over! It went absolutely great. We had to nights for the fashion show which were Tuesday and Wednesday. I think we are all glad  its over and happy on how it went. Everyone looked great from the dancers to the singers to the models. Everyone knew their job and went for it. The models were excellent and some should have a think about joining a modeling agency!! The dancers were also amazing from the songs they picked to the moves they did everything was so clearly thought out. I myself played guitar for my T.Y. Music Group which involved Hannah, Eve, Clara, Dearbhla, Aoife, Eimear and obviously myself. I also played guitar for the Christmas Carol performance I will not list the names as there is waaay to many!!! Both performances went well on both nights. My favorite performance?  the Ballerinas and the Irish dancers.
I should mention that all the clothes were given to us by different shops around the place for example people modeled clothes from New look, Oasis, Only, Born, Dunnes etc. We even had a bridal wear section which was modeled by some of our teachers and a sixth year. They all looked amazing and ready to walk down the aisle. There was also models from Salesians school that came and modeled suits. I must say they all cleaned up very nicely.  Now that the fashion show is over I  think everyone is going to be a lot more calm and not strung out on stress!!!

P.S The teachers entertainment was well very...very...Entertaining.

Work Experience Part II and Halloween

For the past two weeks I have been continuing my work experience at Carton Veterinary clinic.
I am getting to see a lot of things. I get  to stand in on surgeries such as Cat castration and dental cleaning for dogs. I also get to monitor the heart rate and the respiratory rate of the animal while it is under anesthetic. It is a great opportunity in my opinion as I get to actually see it first hand and get to do jobs that a Veterinarian or Veterinary nurse would have to do where other peoples work experience seems to only involve observing people at work.
The mid term break is next week .SO EXCITE. Not really I will probably just sleep and well eat. Which is amazing too. Tomorrow is also a dress up day and  Ty's have to dress up as zombies! I think everyone will look amazing!!!!

Fun Walk

Last week we had our annual Fun Walk. It consists of each class of the school and their tutor making a fool of themselves. Its great fun though and gives everyone a good laugh. In my opinion this fun walk was the best one yet in terms of dances every single class had a good dance and everyone took part. Each year has a different colour first years are Pink ,second years were Purple , third years were Green  , Ty's were Yellow , fifth years were Blue  and sixth years were Black and white.  My class should have won in my opinion but what can you do. As I'm a TY I was a steward at the bend going into my estate. St.Rapheals Manor. I was paired with Anita. Go Anita. ;)  It was fun because we didn't have to do the whole walk and just walked back up when the last people of the school walk was gone. We then got back to no drinks which was crap because I was very thirsty :( . We then got our bags and went home.
Like the other years everyone seemed to have great fun and enjoyed themselves. Heres hoping next years fun walk can live up to this one because the standards have all risen.

Work Experience.

In TY we get to go out on work experience every Wednesday. My work experience placement for the first term is in the Carton Veterinary Clinic in Maynooth. I arrive at 10 and finish around 4, I  have gotten to go home early every week since I started as there were no jobs left to do.
I do a  lot of cleaning and organizing  and I now realize how much cleaning goes on around a veterinary clinic. I clean a lot of different things from the kennels to walls to surgery equipment. I am learning a lot about the different types of equipment used and the most common sicknesses dogs and other pets come into the vet with. I also get to stand in for surgeries so far I have gotten to see a male dog getting neutered and a dog getting its baby teeth out. It was very interesting to watch a little gross but over all interesting. I  do take care of the dogs or cats that are staying there, sometimes I have to walk them or help the vet by holding onto them or trying to keep them calm.
In the mornings I get to stand in for appointments this is where I learn most. I get to see what different types of illnesses and injuries can occur on some pets. I  also get to watch the recovery time and how each animal takes a different time period to heal from an operation etc.
So far my work experience placement has been a lot of fun and i am certain it will remain that way.

Junior Cert result week!!

The second week of T.Y. was a little more relaxed and settled than the first week as we are finally getting settled in and we now know where we are going as a class! As the titles says it is the result week for our junior cert. We received our results yesterday. As we are T.Y.'s we got the day off and had no school which was great as we got time to have a sleep in. This extra rest was a lot of help for the night out afterwards. We arrived at the school for midday and went to the hall we then received our results. I was very nervous.  When I opened the envelope I was very relieved as I didn't fail any subject. NOT EVEN IRISH?
I am also starting to feel a lot more comfortable in my class as I am getting to know everyone better. We have gotten a few projects to do from some of our teachers. I have a geography project  on the tourism in Galway city. It is due in two weeks. I also have a religion project on the eight  Millennium Development Goals. My group are focusing on goal number 4 which is the goal on eliminating child mortality in the world . That is all the projects due for now.
Next week we are going to Carlingford adventure center! I cant wait!!

Thursday 4 September 2014

My first week in TY in St.Wolstans  has nearly come to a close. I arrived  not really knowing where to go the feeling of being in first year slowly crept back.  The sense of nervousness to find out if you will be in your friends classes was daunting. But the outcome was extremely good! Ty is an excellent year to get away from the normal way of studying subjects and to get a different route into learning about each individual subject which you wouldn't get in any other year. I can see my Ty experience being extremely fun and eventful. i cant wait to get to know everyone alot better! The Ty class names are very creative and sweet each of the three classes are named after Disney princesses.

Yesterday we had three separate workshops through out the day. Each of these were very different to the other. The first work shop was a workshop on etiquette. This workshop featured areas on deportment, embracing your own body shape, hand and nail care and a little game to help everyone in the class to become closer. In the deportment area we learned how to walk normally and in high heels. The fun part was that the carpet we had to walk on was red and it gave you the feeling of being on a red carpet and strutting your stuff to the music in the back ground. In the area of embracing your body shape they showed all different body types and how each body is beautiful and not to be scared or embarrassed about the shape of your body. This was a real confidence giver to all of our class which was fantastic! At the end of the workshop as a treat we got to use a lovely hand wash to exfoliate our hands with. It was lovely.
The next workshop was Positive Parties. This was all about having fun and how not to let anyone else bring you down and how to stop over thinking stuff. It was a fantastic experience and thought us how to stay positive which is always helpful!
The last one of the day was all about first aid. They thought us a wide range of stuff and what to do in certain situations. They also thought us how to give CPR and the Heimlich maneuver. We also were thought what to do when someone has an epileptic fit and the two different types of epilepsy. We learned a wide range of different first aid techniques!
I am now excited for the  rest of my Ty year and also to receive my junior certificate results next Wednesday.
