Swim A Mile and Retreat

Last  week we went to swim a mile. We arrived and got changed into our togs and went out to the pool. Just after ten. Brian Daly then explained the plan  after this we went and started to swim. I was put in a team of four it included Eimhear Smith , Anita and Chloe. Chloe just to let you know you looked fab. We had to swim 16 lengths each to complete the mile. Once we completed it we all decided to try swim the mile ourselves. I got 3/4 's of it done but then time was up. Well done to Anita who was planning to do 10 laps but ended up doing 40 laps instead !!  We also got free t shirts which was shamazing. After swim a mile we got to go to Blanch for food and to hang around for awhile and do some window shopping since i don't have any money :'). It was actually a really enjoyable day. And well done to everyone :)).

We had our retreat yesterday in NUI Maynooth. It was  really enjoyable. We arrived at around 10 ish. Our first activity was this game where there was four people in the middle of the circle , these were the dentists and then everyone on the outside of the circle sat on the floor and linked arms , we were teeth. The aim of the game was for the dentist to try and pull us ( the teeth) out of the circle. It was hilarious. It brought out the violent and crazy side of everyone and definitely woke us all up. We then played the raft game where one person calls out a number of people thats meant to be in a group and then you have to get into that sized group. I was doing good until Roisin shoved me out and made me die. Thanks Roisin. After this we had a break for a few mintues and went back into a discussion about various topics. We did this until we had to have our other break where we went to Starbucks ! I got the nicest hot chocolate ever. So.Nice. We then went back into discussion until we had to leave. I really liked the day.

Hip hop and preparing for T.Y night.

We have been doing hip hop for two weeks now.  We have been learning a dance for our TY Night. The dance will be to Ariana Grande's song Break free and Beyonce's song Run the world. I have been really enjoying hip hop so far even though we have only had two sessions its still been really fun. After Break free the music goes into an instrumental Karen ( our hip hop teacher)  gave  us the task of coming up with our own choreography for this instrumental. On the night the plan is to split into three groups and each group dance a separate part of the song. Hopefully it will all go smoothly !!!

We are also organizing a song in French and  well obviously music. For french the two classes are joining up to preform the song Summer Paradise by simple plan and well obviously we are doing the french version !!!  For music we are doing a mix of two songs , these songs are wavin flag by K'nann and never forget by take that. I will be playing guitar for both as I cant sing at all in any way. :')  We are going to have displays for the other subjects.

Chloe is unsafe.

On Monday of this week we went to the Leinster Driving Campus. When we arrived we got an introduction and were told to split into two groups. My group got to drive first . There was three per car. My group was Lauren de salvo and Chloe Mather. Lauren was first to drive because she wasn't quick enough to dive in the backseats. She was a safe driver compared to Chloe who nearly ran over an innocent man. Needless to say I will NEVER let Chloe drive me anywhere even if its an emergency. Shout out to you Chloe and your bad driving:') the second part of the day we did a mock theory test in the group that we drove with. We passed it with a score of 37/40. We then went and tried on the beer goggles which were goggles that gave you double vision. the task was to pick up a cone , walk a few steps and place it on another cone , we then had to hi five the instructor guy which I failed at doing both. :)
It  was a really fun day and in my opinion it was my favourite day out for T.Y yet!! I really enjoyed it even though I nearly got killed by Chloe.

Mini Company Competition Day.

Today was the day of the Mini company competition. We set up first and then waited for everyone to present their projects to the judges. As a year I think everyone was nervous just due to the fact that your idea and work is getting judged. We were one of the last ones to go up and present our company. Our mini company was Photo Beau. I don't think I've actually mentioned mini company on my blog..oops. Anyways so we basically take your(the customer) picture and transfer it on to our canvases. how?? magic. I think our presentation went well, i think the Ms. Leahy and the other judge liked our idea.
The people that won awards were Jartastic for the best stand, Cad e an focail won for the best marketing plan
Stamp It won for best business report:

Cad e an focail won for the best marketing plan:

The two companies that got through to the county final were i.protect and Bam Beauty.

Today was an exciting day and it was nice to show our work to other people and see other peoples companies. I guess the plan is to just continue selling until the end of the year and hopefully make money because that would be great!!!

Briery Gap Drama Competition.

Since the start of the year we have been working on writing and preforming a play for this competition called the Briery Gap TY Drama Competition. There were 7 groups in total that entered from our school. Our groups play was titled 'Change'. It was based on the consequences gay/lesbian/bisexual people had when they came out to their friends or family or got caught in a same sex relationship through different stages of  history starting at the 1800's to 1920's to 1940's to 1960's to 1990's and then to the future and what we hope the attitudes will be like towards same sex marriages and relationships. We tried to add a mix of humor and drama to try keep the mood light but to still get the message across to the people to show that yes we have come far in terms of being more accepting towards people being gay/lesbian/bi/trans etc. but we still have a very long way to go.
I was part of the writing of some scenes and I acted as two main characters one of them being a flapper girl who got her best friend fired from her job as  a flapper girl after she came out to me in the 1920's. I then was a boy who got bullied for being gay in school who the committed suicide.

The day finally came around on Tuesday. I was more excited than nervous. The atmosphere on the bus was just nervousness. We got there at around 10 o clock. We were the fifth group on due on the stage. When we got there we realized that we were the only school there which calmed everyone's nerves down a bit. We got to watch other groups first before it was our turn. Each and every play became so much more alive when put on a stage. It was really great to see the transformation from practicing in the classroom with no props but just our imagination to allow us to imagine the prop in each others hand or our own or on us to having detailed props on a stage. The costumes brought each and every character to life be it a main character or just an extra on stage it made it easier to travel into the world in which the play was set in.
Our play went smoothly and in my opinion it was the best we have ever preformed it. Everyone took their time and allowed themselves to relax and be brought into the story of our play. After that we went to good ole Mc Donald's as a celebratory meal. We then went back to watch other schools plays. We left at 3 and got back for four. The day was really exciting and although i kind of wished there were other schools there to watch it was still good and helped me to know for definite that I want to persue an acting career in the future.  (Haters are gonna hate...potatoes are gonna potate.)

Young Scientist.

So its been too long since I've blogged  but Im back and refreshed (kinda) from my Christmas holidays. This week we went to the Young Scientist.  A group of TYs got into it. They were Eimear Delaney,Aimee Finnegan and Emily Thomas. Their project was based on the ideal conditions for learning. We arrived at ten o clock and left at 3 o clock. There were many very interesting science projects. There were also extremely interesting and interactive stands in the 'technology' section. An example of one of these was a booth where you could get the chance to present the weather. It was really fun. Overall the day was a good day and there was a lot of new projects and ideas which was nice to see.
